Real-life product testing

Don’t launch your product on a hunch.

Have it tested by the right pets and their owners. Find out what works, what needs to change and what you can genuinely stand behind before it goes to market.

Positive reviews are not enough to secure a launch.

A review tells you whether one person liked it. A structured study shows you why, for which profile, under which conditions and what needs fixing.

Without that insight, you risk discovering too late a usability issue, a poorly calibrated claim or a target audience that doesn’t respond as expected.

“

“My pet seems to like the product.”

Spontaneous review · useful, but isolated
◎

“The benefit is observed, quantified and linked to the right profiles.”

Structured study · actionable data

Results that move your product forward.

Every Ethovia study answers one simple question: what will you be able to decide afterwards?

1

Decide before investing further

Identify what works in use, the pain points and the most receptive profiles before committing to a full-scale launch.

2

Improve the product methodically

Turn field observations into concrete recommendations on the formula, the format, the instructions or the user journey.

3

Build credible claims

Back your messaging with a structured protocol and documented results, rather than a handful of isolated reviews.

What you receive at the end of the study.

A decision-ready report, not just a table of figures: what convinces, what holds people back, and what you can decide as soon as results are presented.

  • ✓ Perceived and observed benefits
  • ✓ Differences between pet profiles
  • ✓ Pain points in everyday use
  • ✓ Priority areas for improvement
  • ✓ Claims that can be substantiated*
* Depending on the protocol, the results obtained and the applicable regulatory framework.

The right test starts with the right decision.

We design every study around your product, your target audience and the risk you need to eliminate.

1

Scope

We start from the decision your team needs to make, not from a standard questionnaire.

2

Select

We identify the pets and owners who genuinely match your target audience.

3

Test

The product is used within a structured framework, on site or in the household’s daily routine.

4

Decide

You receive clear results, response profiles and actionable recommendations.

The right set-up for the question you’re asking.

Each format serves a different decision. We choose the one that removes your risk, not the most impressive one, and we tell you when no study is needed.

In-home usage tests

The product becomes part of the participant’s daily life for several days or weeks, at home or at our site. Diaries, regular check-ins and pain points logged as they happen.

Quantitative and qualitative research

Quantitative research sizes and compares; qualitative research explains. Calibrated samples and comparable measures on one side; interviews, focus groups and in-home immersions on the other.

Sensory analysis

Descriptive profiling, hedonic tests and blind comparisons. In the lab with trained panellists, or in real-use conditions with pets and their owners.

Surveys

Quick polling of our panels on a precise target, online and within days. To settle a choice, test a hunch or scope a budget before a full study.

Data and statistical analysis

Processing, segmentation, modelling and significance testing. On the data we collect, or on data you already hold.

Exploratory research

Early groundwork on habits, tensions and opportunities, before locking in a concept, a target or a protocol. Often the most cost-effective step.

Event organisation

Test days, owner meet-ups, field operations and demonstrations. Designed, set up and run by our teams, with usable data collected along the way.

Spaces designed for in-person testing.

A dedicated pet environment, with pens that adapt to each species and protocol, and grooming rooms. The product is observed in the right conditions, without taking the animal out of its comfort zone.

  • ✓ Modular pens adapted to species, size and protocol
  • ✓ Grooming rooms equipped for hygiene and care testing
  • ✓ Live observation by our teams, with owners free to stay by their pet’s side
  • ✓ A complement to in-home testing, never a substitute

Your product

Useful data is worthless if it comes at the animal’s expense.

Our studies are non-clinical, non-invasive and built around natural behaviour, everyday use and the owner’s experience.

Non-clinicalNon-invasiveReal-life conditionsStructured protocol
Original Ethovia symbol: a human profile, a dog, a cat, a bird and a rabbit brought together in one circle.

Companionship, for everyone who shares a home.

Our field is life together: understanding how a product finds its place among the people and animals who live under one roof. Pets first and, with the same method, families, children and older adults, across the industries that support them every day.

Families

One product, several users

In a household, the person who buys isn’t always the one who uses, and everyone has an opinion. We test with the whole household to understand who decides, who adopts and who gives up.

  • Purchase decision
  • Shared use
  • Individual adoption
  • Household routine

Children

The toughest judge

Taste, texture, convenience, perceived safety: a children’s product has to win over two audiences at once. We observe the child and interview the parent, with age-appropriate protocols, always with parental consent and in the parents’ presence.

  • Child acceptance
  • Parent confidence
  • Ease of use
  • Perceived safety

Seniors

Simple, clear, reassuring

Readability, ease of handling, independence: seniors quickly reveal what makes a product complicated. We recruit them for who they are, demanding users, not a niche segment.

  • Ease of handling
  • Readability
  • Independence
  • Confidence

Consumer goods

What gets used every day

Food, drinks, household care, hygiene. The product has to keep its promise in a real household’s routine, with its constraints of time, taste and budget.

  • Appeal & taste
  • Convenience
  • Promise delivered
  • Repurchase intent

Wellbeing

A benefit you can feel

Sleep, energy, quality of life, relaxation. The benefit builds over time: a one-off test tells you next to nothing. We measure how it takes hold, week after week.

  • Perception over time
  • Self-reported feel
  • Fit with routine
  • Continued use

Health

Understanding and adherence

Devices, pharmacy products, self-medication. The gap between the prescribed action and what people actually do is the leading cause of failure. We observe it rather than rely on self-reports.

  • Leaflet readability
  • Actions actually performed
  • Comfort of use
  • Need for support

Beauty

Sensory first, claims second

Skincare, hygiene, cosmetics, haircare. Before it can convince, a product has to feel good to apply. We document what hands and skin remember, application after application.

  • Texture & scent
  • Application routine
  • Perceived comfort
  • Self-reported tolerance

Food supplements

What keeps people on a course

The real challenge is rarely the formula: it’s completing the programme. Format, taste, timing and reminders drive adherence far more than dosage.

  • Format & ease of intake
  • Taste & aftertaste
  • Time of intake
  • Course completed

What to know before you start.

Answers to the questions we are asked most often.

Do you only work on pet products?

Petcare is our core business and the most distinctive expertise in our market. But our protocols focus on lived experience, not on a species: we also run studies with 90,000 consumers in consumer goods, wellbeing, health, beauty and food supplements, with the same method and the same deliverable.

At what stage of my project should I test?

As soon as a decision depends on the answer: choosing a formula, deciding between two formats, calibrating a claim. Testing early always costs less than fixing things after launch.

How long does a study take?

It depends on the scope: number of households, length of use to observe, complexity of the protocol. We give you a precise timeline at the briefing stage, before any commitment.

How are households and pets selected?

Using criteria defined with you: species, breed, age, body type, lifestyle and usage habits. We submit the panel composition to you before the study begins.

Does my project data stay confidential?

Yes. Every study is covered by a dedicated confidentiality agreement, signed before it begins. The results belong to you.

Do you work internationally?

Yes. A study can cover several markets at once, with a methodology adapted to each local context.
